Logistics firms tap new demand

Logistics and delivery companies are seeing room to expand, even though lower levels of global trade have resulted in slower business for them.

The downturn has created opportunities for some; others see it as a good time to improve their capabilities.

DHL, one of the global market leaders in logistics, said delivery services are always needed, in good times and bad.

Now, Netherlands-based logistics firm TNT has launched a $20-million regional hub at Changi Cargo Complex.

The hub can collect goods sent to Singapore by air from other parts of the world before delivering them to other countries in South-east Asia by road using TNT’s road services, which stretch from Singapore to China.

AsiaOne reports that last month, another logistics company, NYK Logistics (Asia), also expanded by opening a new container facility in Keppel to handle ship cargo.
