German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for an end to the trade row between China and the EU that could see the union impose tariffs as high as 67% on Chinese solar products next month, Reuters reported. Merkel said that she would do everything in her power to prevent this trade dispute from escalating into a trade war involving sanctions and duties. The European Union has accused Chinese firms of “dumping” solar panels and telecommunications equipment in the EU too cheaply in an attempt to undercut competition. China has threatened retaliation in the event that the EU levies duties on imports.
