Officials from the China Meteorological Administration held a seminar in Beijing to press the central government to get ready soon for the worst possible catastrophes from sudden climate changes that they said could kill millions of Chinese, destroy the economy and undermine national security. The meteorologists called on the government to fund a supercomputer-based forecasting model similar to Japan's Earth simulator. The seminar follows a recent Pentagon-funded report that concluded the greatest threat to US security to be climate change.
