The US and China have both endorsed the prospect of a visit to Beijing by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, wrote Bloomberg Sunday morning, as trade tensions between the two countries begin to simmer.
“A trip is under consideration,” Mnuchin said on Saturday at the IMF spring meetings. “I’m not going to make a comment on timing, nor do I have anything confirmed.”
On the nature of any final arrangements with China, Mnuchin did not provide details, but added that was “cautiously optimistic” of the two countries reaching an agreement.
China’s Commerce Ministry acknowledged the mention of a visit in a statement and said it welcomed the possibility.
