Eighty-four per cent of Chinese consumers prefer foreign mobile phones to local models, with Motorola, Nokia and Ericsson being their favourite makers, according to a nationwide survey conducted by the China Telecommunications Association and Eaglewings Public Relations.
The survey also showed that a high proportion of mobile phone users were no longer satisfied with just the basic voice function: 62 per cent wanted to be able to send and receive e-mail via their cellphones, 51 per cent wanted a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone, referring to the wireless short-distance communication standard; and a majority of users thought that a mobile phone should function as a mobile computer with MP3 access, the function that allows people to download audio features.
