National Day spending grows for retail, restaurants, travel and movies

Sales in China’s cinema, restaurant and travel sales surged during the National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, Bloomberg reported, citing state media. More than 750 million trips were taken during the period, according to state news agency Xinhua, while sales at restaurants and retailers totaled RMB1.082 trillion (US$170.5 billion), an 11% jump over the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce. Box office take for the week shot past RMB1.85 billion, a 70% jump year-on-year, with all three top performers produced in China. More than 4 million tourists also traveled abroad, with Japan the top pick according to online travel firm Tuniu.
