NDRC man to take over as commerce minister

One of China's top energy officials is set to succeed Bo Xilai as the country's commerce minister, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. Chen Deming, who is currently vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), was said to have started work at the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday, although his appointment will not be made official until it is approved by lawmakers in December. In addition to being an energy expert, Chen has been responsible for fixed-asset investment and economic planning at the NDRC. Bo has been expected to leave his post since being promoted to the Communist Party's 25-person politburo in October. Meanwhile, two vice governors of the People's Bank of China, Wu Xiaoling and Su Ning, are expected to retire soon. The bank is said to be looking for candidates to succeed them.
