48.1% of the 7,000 probes carried out on the mainland by quality control group AsiaInspection found that food processing factories had failed to meet acceptable standards, South China Morning Post reported. Major reasons for failures in China included deliberate mislabeling of product ingredients and the falsifying of ingredients’ expiration dates. Bad ratings were triggered in lab testing by substances such as pesticides, antibiotics, heavy metals, bacteria and viruses. Even so, factories generally must fail two audits before being removed from companies’ production lines for not meeting basic standards in the workplace.
