A new chemical fibre plant in Luoyang, Henan province, went into operation in April, Xinhua reported. The Yn6.4bn project has an annual capacity of 200,000 tons of polyester, 90,000 tons of terylene short fibre and 100,000 tons of terylene long fibre. It forms part of Luoyang General Petrochemicals Plant. Luoyang is the fifth largest production base of chemical fibres in China.
Asahi Kasei of Japan and EI du Pont de Nemours of the US plan to jointly produce high-performance resin in Jiangsu province from 2004, reported Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The US$38m plant will have an annual capacity of 20,000 tonnes of polyacetal, a highly durable resin that is used in making automotive and electric appliance parts.
