At least nine villagers from Dongzhou village in Guangdong province are believed to have been arrested for their part in riots last week in which police opened fire and killed at least three protesters, the South China Morning Post reported. The arrested villagers were all in their 30s and 40s and included the three alleged instigators who were described as "wanted criminals" by police. Relatives of one of the victims said they had rejected a US$6,200 compensation deal offered by the government, which came with the condition that the body be buried immediately under the supervision of the authorities.
