Beijing has too many cars and there is no end in sight. However, the city’s transit authorities said they will not limit the number of cars by making license plate numbers more expensive.
An unnamed official of the Beijing Commission of Transport said the city will explore other measures to rein in the skyrocketing number of cars on the roads.
Last month, officials of the Beijing Commission of Urban Planning announced the government was working on a package plan to keep road traffic flowing, including measures to control the overall number of cars.
Global Times reports that about 72,500 private cars were sold in Beijing in September, 2,300 fewer than in August, which had been by far the biggest month for sales.
