Nokia to produce TD-SCDMA models for China Mobile

Nokia, which once dominated the mobile phone market, lost the plot by not going for smartphones and lost its commanding lead. Now Nokia plans to make a comeback on the Chinese market with TD-SCDMA phones.
Note that TD-SCDMA is the local 3G mobile standard so no royalties have to be paid. It was thrust on China Mobile, which made the very best of a difficult task and responded very well.
TelcomPaper reports that Nokia will now partner with China Mobile and has already rolled out four TD-SCDMA devices. However, Samsung, quick off the mark, has already launched nine models and grabbed a 48.2% share of the TD-SCDMA market. Nokia has an uphill task ahead.
