Official: No factory suspensions during Olympics

China has no plans to order factories in and around Beijing to suspend operations during next year's Olympic Games, the Financial Times reported. Liu Qi, Beijing Communist party chief and head of the Olympic organizing committee aid said regional governments were cooperating with efforts to combat air pollution to implement long-term environmental rules to strengthen factories' management of gases and reduce pollutant emissions. Liu and the Chinese Academy of Sciences are working with local environmental officials and US companies to draw up a comprehensive assessment of air pollution in Beijing in a report that could be made public.
