Officials: China can weather global economic crisis

At an international investment fair in Fujian, Chinese officials said they are confident their country can weather a world economic slowdown, state media reported. In a keynote speech, Vice Premier Wang Qishan said the overall situation in China is good and the country can maintain a steady economic performance and contain the rising consumer price index. Wang noted that China’s economy has had challenges this year from severe winter weather and the May 12 Sichuan earthquake. Referring to the international financial markets, Wang said China has taken macro control measures to cope with the situation. Minister of Commerce Chen Deming said China’s economic growth is driven by domestic consumption and steadily growing foreign trade.
