One million face water shortage

A drought in southwestern China is threatening the water supplies of one million people along the Yangtze River, AFP reported. Authorities in Chongqing have sent water trucks to provide for residents and livestock in regions that have not seen rain for weeks. Recently, water levels on the Yangtze have decreased rapidly and one of Chongqing's largest drinking water suppliers said the water level has fallen below most of the pipes the company uses to draw water from the river. The region is still recovering from a severe drought from last summer, the worst in decades, which forced tens of thousands of farmers to leave to leave the region in search of work elsewhere.
