The Chinese Communist Party announced Monday that it will amend its charter at the 17th Party Congress in October, the South China Morning Post reported. The revised constitution will keep the thinking of all major communist figures, but be updated to include new theoretical concepts and strategic thoughts developed since Hu joined the Politburo five years ago, including Hu's "scientific development" and a "harmonious society" theories. With Hu's theories enshrined, he reach the status within the party of past leaders Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin, analysts say. The party charter has been regularly revised at each five-yearly party congress since 1982.
