Peugeot boosts capacity with third plant

French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen (UG.EPA) will open a third factory in China today in partnership with China’s Dongfeng Motor (0489.HKG), Bloomberg reported. The plant, located in the city of Wuhan in Hubei province, will raise the company’s annual production capacity to 750,000, an increase of two-thirds. The factory will produce the Citroen C-Elysee and Peugeot 301 sedans. Sales rose 32% for Peugeot in the first five months of the year, more than double the average sales growth for passenger vehicles, according to the auto maker and the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. The growth contrasts sharply with Peugeot’s loss making operations in Europe.
