Chinese police fatally shot two Uighur men on Monday and wounded a third in the far Western region of Xinjiang, AP reported. An official with the Urumqi city government said that police came across three Uighur men attacking a fourth Uighur with long knives and batons. The attackers turned on the police when confronted. Police fired warning shots into the air before shooting the men, the official said. Two were killed instantly and the third was rushed to the hospital where his condition is unknown. Pockets of violence continue in the region’s capital despite an upgraded troop presence in the city. At least 184 people, the majority of which were Han Chinese, have died in the Xinjiang unrest.
