Poultry imports restricted

China's imports of broiler products fell sharply in the first half of 2002, International Egg and Poultry Review said. Traders reported that they were having problems in obtaining import inspection permits. The restriction, which appeared to be most severe for chicken feet and wingtips where imports are most competitive with domestic products, was attributed by the magazine to the government's use of administrative measures to protect domestic producers. They are deprived of export markets by the bans imposed by Japan and the EU on imports from China.
