Private firms top employers in Shanghai

Private enterprises accounted for 28 per cent of jobs provided in Shanghai in 2002, making it the largest single sector, according to statistics prepared by the city's labour and social security bureau. The number of jobs provided by foreign-funded enterprises fell slightly over the year, while those in the public sector increased slightly. Labour demand in Shanghai increased by 37 per cent from 2001, while the number of people available for work increased by 51 per cent.
