Pro-independence money 'unwelcome'

China said that it “doesn’t welcome” investment by Taiwanese businesspeople and companies which support formal independence for the island. A People’s Daily commentary voiced China’s opposition to mainland investment by Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp Chairman Hsu Wen-long and other Taiwanese businesspeople which it accused of using profits from mainland operations to fund Taiwan’s independence movement. The commentary did not state if China would take action against investment by pro-independence Taiwanese on the mainland.
