[photopress:Putuo_District_1.jpg,full,alignright]Located in the northwest of Shanghai, Putuo District covers an area of 55 square kilometers and is the second largest urban area of Shanghai. A few decades ago Putuo District was known for its poor living conditions.
Now it has all changed.There has been a huge change in the focus of development strategy of Putuo district.
For instance, Taopu Industrial Park, which was one of the leading chemical industry parks in early 1990s in Putuo District has shifted to Shanghai Northwest Comprehensive Logistics Park and Shanghai Technology Incubator.
[photopress:putou_2.jpg,full,alignleft]Changzheng Industrial Park was built in 1995 to focus on light manufacturing.The boundary of Changning District and Putuo District is very clear — Suzhou Creek. Putuo District is located at the north side of Suzhou Creek and Changning District.
Putuo now plans to introduce more company headquarters and has already has become home for, among others, the Fosun Group, MGM China and METRO Group China.
The district, along with the city’s Suzhou Creek, has five key areas allocated to develop modern commerce and industry including Zhenru Town, the Changfeng Ecological Business Zone and an urban industrial zone in Taopu.
An environmentally friendly commercial center in the Zhenru area is now under construction with the aim of creating a second downtown center for the city.
[photopress:zones_suzhuo_crekk_Putou_district.jpg,full,alignright]According to the plans, the commercial zone covering 6.21 square kilometers will be connected by an underground complex, which will include commercial outlets, restaurants and parking lots.
According to the development plan a total of 1.2 million square meters will be developed for the underground complex, which will link shops, entertainment facilities and subway stations as a whole.
The ‘green’ park will be the core of the commercial center and five green landscape areas will be built along the major roads in the Zhenru area.
According to the Putuo District government, the Zhenru center will be totally completed somewhere during the next three Five-Year Plans which run from last year to 2022.
