A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan province in the early evening on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring 23, state media reported. The quake’s epicenter in Qingchuan County was near the site of the May 12 earthquake, which as of Monday had resulted in 69,207 deaths. Yesterday’s quake, which was felt as far away as Xi’an and Chongqing, was called an "aftershock" by the China Earthquake Administration. More than 12,600 aftershocks have struck the region since May, with at least seven measuring above 6.0 on the Richter scale.
