Record number of anti-dumping cases

The number of anti-dumping charges filed against Chinese manufacturers by other countries totalled 500 by the end of 2002 and they cost China billions of yuan in lost export revenues, People's Daily said. The Ministry of Commerce said this figure accounted for 14 per cent of the world's total, more than any other country.

A ministry official pointed to growing trade protectionism through anti-dumping suits, reaching a total of 55 in 2001 and 47 in 2002. He added that China would use the mechanism of the World Trade Organisation to protect the rights of Chinese firms.
