China's first
regional power market is to be established in the northeast of the country early next year,
reported International Finance News, quoting a directive from the State Electricity
Regulatory Commission. Power generation and distribution firms in Liaoning, Heilongjiang
and parts of eastern Inner Mongolia will start buying and selling
electricity from January
1. A regional power dispatch, trading and settlement centre will he established for
companies to trade cash and futures power contracts.
Mock trading will begin in October
and all coal-fired plants with a capacity ofat least 100MW will participate at the start of the
programme, with smaller and non-coal-fired plants joining later.
