Regulator bans ‘sexually suggestive’ ads

Two thousand television and radio advertisements promoting female underwear and other "sexually suggestive" items have been banned from China's airwaves, AFP reported. According to a statement released by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), ads for breast enhancement and female underwear are "vulgar." Ads for sex-related health supplements, drugs for sexually transmitted diseases and sex toys have also been banned. "The [administration] has always called on all media to hold onto their sense of responsibility but some of them surrendered to audience ratings and profits and caused a vile impact," SARFT added. The wave of censorship comes just days before the start of the Communist Party Congress in Beijing. In September, SARFT issued a ban on sexually explicit television shows.
