Renewable energy's great potential

A climate change report entitled "Annual Report on Actions to Address Climate Change" was published by the Social Sciences Academic Press earlier this week and showed that at least a major part of the country’s potential lies in renewable energy.

"With the support of renewable energy policies, China has been making rapid progress in developing and utilizing renewable energy," the report said.
The report cited figures showing that the country’s wind energy capacity has increased 100% a year since 2006, which makes it second in the world after the United States.
China Daily reported that China has also been focusing on closing down inefficient, high-energy consumption industries. A total of 1,259 small mines had been closed since mid-September 2009, passing the country’s goal for that year by 80%.
