Renminbi used for almost a quarter of cross-border transactions in 2014

The Chinese yuan was used for almost 25% of the country’s cross-border transactions in 2014, totaling RMB9.95 trillion (US$1.6 trillion) in international payments, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing an online statement from the People’s Bank of China. There were no comparison figures for 2013, as such data aren’t issued on a regular basis, but the bank said that the “scale of cross-border and international use of the renminbi continues to grow quickly.” Fifty countries now use the currency for at least 10% of their trade with China, according to international payments provider Swift.
