SARS concerns in Beijing, Anhui

China reported that it isolated five new suspected severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases and that it was testing samples from a woman to see if she died from the virus. China's Institute of Virology was also shut down by the Ministry of Health based upon suspicions that the new outbreak originated in the institute, which is the mainland's top laboratory dealing with SARS. In the recent reemergence of SARS, two cases have been confirmed as having been infected by the virus, two are suspected to have been infected and 13 people who have been in contact with the patients have developed SARS-like symptoms. One of the suspected cases, a 53-year-old woman, died after entering the hospital and is being tested for the virus. In Beijing as many as 337 people were quarantined and are being monitored for the virus. In Anhui province, more than 100 were quarantined after a nurse returned home from working at the institute in Beijing.
