More than five years ago, the Georgia Ports Authority entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Shanghai International Port Group. It appears to have worked out well.
Last week, Portworld.com reported that Shanghai has overtaken Singapore as the world’s busiest container port, making the five-year-old agreement between Savannah and Shanghai even more important.
"Earlier this year we renewed our partnership with the Shanghai ports by extending our agreement," said Curtis Foltz, GPA executive director. "This will cement what is already a strong collaboration in marketing, shared commercial and operational best practices."
Savannah Morning News reports that in 2009, Georgia’s exports to China totalled close to US$1.8 billion, ranking China as Georgia’s second-largest export destination. Georgia ranks first among US states in its exports of poultry, kaolin clay and textile floor coverings to China.
