ZTE’s reprieve from last week’s deal with the White House could be short-lived as US senators push forward with a bill to reinstate April’s sanctions on the Chinese telecommunications firm, Reuters reported.
The Senate will vote in the next few days on an amendment to the annually-passed National Defense Authorisation Act, or NDAA, which if approved would overturn the administration’s deal to allow ZTE to continue business.
The Senate measure will be in addition to the existing NDAA drawn up by the House of Representatives, which already prohibits government agencies from using “risky” technology from ZTE or Huawei due to the companies being “linked to the Chinese Communist Party’s intelligence apparatus.”
