In the wake of its declining Chinese market share, which has fallen to 11% from 50% four years ago, Volkswagen appointed the vice-chair of VW's Skoda unit, Winfried Vahland, to replace Folker Weissgerber, the board member responsible for China, and the retiring head of China operations, Bernd Leissner, the Financial Times reported. Last month, an official said 2004 VW China profit of US$287m was half that of a year earlier.
