Shanghai's 3G mobile phone services launch, originally scheduled for October, will be delayed until the first quarter of next year, state media reported. Datang Mobile, which is building the networks for the service, will begin construction of the network in October. China Mobile will test the system until year's end. Datang Mobile will build 1,200 to
1,500 TD-SCDMA (the domestic 3G standard) base stations in Shanghai, according to Yang Guiliang, Datang Mobile's senior vice president. To prepare for the launch, China Mobile will buy two million TD-SCDMA phones in October.
