Some China-related numbers you may have missed:
$3.5b: The estimated cost for constructing a Disneyland-style theme park in Shanghai, making it one of the largest foreign investments in China. The park will stretch across 1,000 acres in Pudong and plans to debut in five to six years.
920k: The number of investors who have started trading on ChiNext, a growth enterprise market that launched on October 30. However, this is barely 10% of the 9.6 million investors who have opened a ChiNext trading account in the past 10 days.
5k: The number of iPhone units China Unicom sold in the first weekend. Observers attribute the disappointing sales to the high price and disabled WiFi. China has the world’s biggest phone market with 720 million users. Without a subscription, the iPhone can cost around US$1,000.
$2.80: The average amount Shanghai white collar workers spend on lunch, according to a survey by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The majority said bad tasting food and unsanitary restaurants are major problems.
