Shanghai GM recalls 1.46m defective cars

Shanghai General Motors, General Motors’ (GM.NYSE) Chinese joint venture, is recalling 1.46 million cars to replace defective fuel pump brackets, one of the largest safety recalls in the global auto market, Reuters reported. The recall, which was announced on Friday by China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, affects two of GM’s most popular models in China, the Buick Excelle compact car and the Chevrolet Sail subcompact. More than 1.2 million Excelle made between 2006 and 2011 and more than 240,000 Sail subcompacts built between 2009 and 2011 are in the recall.
