Shanghai rejects Playboy club plan

Shanghai business regulators rejected an application from Playboy Enterprises to open a seven-story nightclub in the city. Playboy, whose magazine is banned in China, had planned to open the club in the city's Hongqiao district in late 2005, but the bid was refused a business license on the grounds that it did not comply with corporate law and other regulations, Xinhua reported. Playboy had planned to run the club as a joint venture with the privately held Shanghai Entertainment group.
