In August, Shenzhen port handled just over 1.3 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), a 30% year on year increase, the rise credited once again to exporters looking for a cheaper alternative to Hong Kong. In 2004's first eight months, Shenzhen handled 8.52 million TEUs.
