Shenzhen latest city to join PX plant protests

About 20 protesters rallied in Shenzhen against a planned chemical plant in the Guangdong city of Maoming on Thursday, South China Morning Post reported. Similar demonstrations have taken place in Maoming and Guangzhou. Residents fear the PX plant, which is to be run by the local government and the state-controlled oil giant China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (SNP.NYSE, 0386.HKG, 600028.SHA) in Maoming, will bring environmental and health risks. The Shenzhen protest lasted only 10 minutes before the demonstrators were taken away by police. All the protestors are originally from Maoming but now living in Shenzhen.
