Construction has started in Caofeidian zone, Heibei, for a plant for Shougang which will cost some RMB67.73 billion(US$9.89 billion.) This plant as part of Shougang’s efforts to shift its production facilities away from Beijing in a bid to reduce pollution in the capital and also cut costs.
The new mills are close to an iron ore port and in the zone which is designed to build China’s steel industry’s head office.
Shougang got the relocation approval from State Council four years ago. As a result, Beijing began to layout a long-term construction plan.
The total construction area is about 9.03 million square meter and the industry zone accounts for 8.56 square kilometer. It is mainly engaged in industrial research design, service.
