Sina Corp, the world's largest Chinese-language Internet portal, said its fourth quarter revenues hit a company record US$38.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 197%. Sina reported a fourth quarter net profit of US$9.3 million, up from US$1.5 in the same period the previous year.
The rise in revenue and profits was attributed to a surge in non-advertising sales in 2003, during which the company began to pull significantly ahead of competitors Sohu and NetEase.
Sina said that it is experiencing increasing competition from specialized mobile content providers, which it may move to acquire if they pose a serious enough threat.
