The Communist party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has detained Wang Tianpu, president and vice-chairman of state-owned petrochemical behemoth Sinopec (600028.SHA), The Financial Times reported, citing a statement on the commission’s website. The detention of Wang, who has been president of the company since 2011, comes amid an anti-graft campaign helmed by President Xi Jinping that aims to purge the party of corrupt officials deemed a threat to its continued control of the country. The crackdown has often focused on the energy sector, a former fiefdom of onetime security tsar Zhou Yongkang (detained, awaiting trial).
