Spanish hotels for China

Hotel groups are increasingly looking to China for possibilities of expansion. Now the Spanish Gran Melia Hotels & Resorts has arrived in Shanghai and will open on January 1.

It is in the Pudong development zone with a sweeping view of the Huangpu River and the Shanghai skyline. It is an integral part of the Lujiazui financial district and is a five-minute walk to the metro subway station. Pudong International Airport is a 40-minute drive while 15 minutes away is the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

Fascinating that the hotel boasts each room has an iPod connection. That is before you are told you have a computer connection.

PR Newswire says the chain was started in Palma de Mallorca in Spain in 1956. It claims it is the the largest resort hotel chain in the world and market leader in Spain in both business and leisure travel.

SolMedia tells us the company currently provides more than 300 hotels in 30 countries on 4 continents, and employs 37,000 people under its Gran Melia, ME by Melia, Paradisus, Melia, Innside, Tryp, Sol and Sol Melia Vacation Club brands.
