Spielberg resigns from Olympics over Darfur

Hollywood director Steven Spielberg has resigned from his role as artistic advisor for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics, citing strong disapproval of China’s relationship with the government in Sudan, the Wall Street Journal reported. Spielberg, who first came under attack in the US last year for his involvement with the Olympics, wrote a letter to President Hu Jintao saying he had "only recently come to understand fully the extent of China’s involvement" with Sudan. In a statement released on Tuesday, he said that while the Sudanese government bears the majority of responsibility, the international community, and particularly China, should be doing more. "My conscience will not allow me to continue with business as usual," he said.
