When the Oriental Pearl TV tower caught fire last week in a lightning storm two firefighters showed their initiative.
Ttwo firefighters climbed to the top of the futuristic tower taking extinguishers with them. But they couldn’t hit the swaying tower with the dry powder that sprayed out of the canisters.
So they filled their mouths with bottled water and sprayed – sounds more elegant than spat – the fire out.
Yes, it took three hours but they did it.
The skyscraper-heavy metropolis will now buy two professional fire-extinguishing helicopters especially to fight high-rise fires. The official spokesperson said it would be easier than spitting.
Shanghai Daily.com reported that the spokesperson said, "If we had such helicopters, it would have been much easier to put out the fire on the TV tower." But one would lose the romance.
