SPX is building a US$40 million manufacturing campus near Shanghai. SPX is a Charlotte-based company in the US that makes products in three core markets: energy infrastructure, process equipment for the food and beverage industry and diagnostic tools for vehicle servicing and repair.
The 53-acre (21.4-hectare) facility will provide support for SPX’s manufacturing, research and development, logistics and customer service.
Completion of the first phase of the facility is expected by year-end 2011. About 1,000 SPX employees are expected to work at the campus.
The company has operated in China since 1994. One of SPX’s projects in China includes the design and building of cooling-tower systems for power plants.
Charlotte Journal reported SPX as saying the demand for dry cooling technology in China has risen in recent years as the country’s power-generation market expands and water-conservation efforts remain a top priority for the Chinese government.
