Starwood signs two hotels

Starwood will open two new hotels. The first is the  Astor Hotel, scheduled to open  in May 2010 after a $22 million renovation. The second The Malus Sanya a resort to open in late 2012.
The Luxury Collection of which these are a part cover more than 70 hotels and resorts in more than 30 countries across the globe including Hotel Danieli, Venice; Hotel Imperial, Vienna; Grand Bretagne, Athens and so on. The sort of hotels that keep coming up in James Bond books.
The Astor in Tianjin should open in May of this year following a $22 million renovation. 152 guest rooms and suites, about 1,000 square metres of meeting space, five world class restaurants and bars, an indoor swimming pool, and state-of-the-art fitness and business centres.
 
The Astor Hotel first opened in 1863 and is classified as a National Important Historical Relics Protection Unit by the Chinese GovernmentIt has played host to VIPs, Heads-of-State and International Diplomats including Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Madam Song Qingling, former United States President Herbert Hoover and the last Emperor Puyi.
It is in the CBD at Tai’er zhuang Road, Heping District and a  35 minute drive from the Tianjin International Airport.

  reports the Malus in Sanya which is opening in the autumn of 2012, will be a totally different concept. Part of the integrated Haitang Bay Beach Resort district spreading over a site area of 150 square kilometers with 40 kilometres of beachfront.
160 luxury guest rooms and villas, approximately 300 square meters of meeting space plus all the usual resort facilities. Unusual in that  it will share specialty shopping, and a recreational centre with the newly opened Sheraton Sanya Haitang Bay Resort.
