[photopress:starwoodfirst.jpg, full, alignright]Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide (to give it its full name although Starwood will do as it is universally recognized) has said it plans to triple its China presence in the next few years. There will be eight more hotels in China this year which is a quite remarkable rate of expansion.
Qian Jin, senior vice president for Starwood’s China operation, said, ‘We hope to bring all our nine brands to the China market and increase total portfolio to 100 by 2010. The new hotels will be located in both first- and second-tier cities.’
Starwood operates 34 hotels and has another 37 facilities under construction throughout China including St Regis, Sheraton, Westin, Four Points by Sheraton, Le Meridien and Aloft. Our illustration is what is thought to be the first Starwood property in China. It is the Sheraton Sanya Resort which opened in 2003 and is a full five star hotel.
