The Chinese government has approved the construction of 13 power stations involving a total investment of Yn51.2bn, reported Xinhua. The new stations will have a combined installed capacity of 11,880MW. The news agency said that construction work has begun on 17 power stations so far this year, with an installed capacity of 10,600MW.
Demand for power is expected to grow by 9-10 per cent this year and power shortages have been experienced in many provinces. One company to be affected is the leading aluminium producer, Guizhou Aluminium, which is expected to produce 200,000 tonnes this year – 40,000 tonnes short of target.
