Jailed Rio Tinto (RIO.ASX, RIO.LSE) executive Stern Hu will not appeal his 10-year jail sentence, the South China Morning Post reported. Hu, and Australian national and the former head of the mining firm’s Shanghai office, was convicted in Chinese courts of receiving up to US$13 million in bribes from mainland steel firms. The decision met with criticism in Australia, and his three Chinese co-defendants have all chosen to appeal their convictions. Jin Chunqing, one of Hu’s attorneys, said, "After prudent consideration, Stern Hu decided not to appeal. He made the decision after consulting his closest family and friends and us, his lawyers, as well."
