Representatives of Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, have said significant disagreements remain over more autonomy for Buddhists in China following a fifth round of talks with Beijing, Reuters reported. There is a better and deeper understanding of each other's position and the fundamental differences that continue to exist in the positions held by the two parties, said envoy Lodi Gyari. The Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule and he is still seen by Beijing as a separatist. It has been claimed that the Chinese authorities fear social unrest in Tibet should the Dalai Lama die while still in exile in northern India.
